The Grand Budapest Hotel recreated in over 50,000 Lego bricks
This article is more than 9 years oldWes Anderson's cameo-filled film has now been rendered in Lego, in a project that took 575 hours to completeThe Grand Budapest Hotel has become Wes Anderson's highest-grossing film, been toured on the Queen Mary 2 liner, and turned into an immersive theatrical experience by the Secret Cinema team – and now its whimsy continues to grow, as the hotel from the film has been rebuilt with over 50,000 Lego bricks.
A team of 10 people, led by Ryan Ziegelbauer, spent 575 hours constructing the hotel, with bricks sourced from collectors across the world. It's 7ft tall, 6.5ft wide, weighs 68 kilos, and will go on display at the A+D Architecture and Design museum in Los Angeles as part of their Come In! S, M, L, XLA exhibition on scale and size in architecture.
The Lego hotel appears as The Grand Budapest Hotel is released in home video formats (it comes out on 7 July in the UK). It's not the first time that Anderson's world has been recreated in Lego – one enterprising fan "hacked" these Lego figures to create the cast of the Anderson film The Royal Tenenbaums.
