Michael Gerard Tyson (born June 30, 1966) is an American former professional boxer who is known by all and sundry as Mike Tyson

Nicknamed “Iron Mike” and “Kid Dynamite,” he competed for fifteen years from 1985 to 2005. He was the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990 and is regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers in the world. 

Mike Tyson fought a total of 58 boxing matches and won 50 of them. He has been inducted into the prestigious International Boxing Hall Of Fame.

Early Life

Mike Tyson was born Michael Gerard Tyson on the 30th Of June 1966. He is from Brooklyn, New York City. He was born and raised in the Fort Greene neighborhood. He is a member of the African-American community.

Mike Tyson hails from a family of five. He has two older siblings, a brother, and a sister: his siblings are Rodney TysonJimmie Lee Kirkpatrick, and Denise Tyson. His mother is Lorna Smith, while his father is Jimmy Kirkpatrick. Jimmy Kirkpatrick is a Jamaican man who worked as a cab driver. 

Mike Tyson spent the first ten years of his life residing in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. But when his family began to face financial challenges, they moved to Brownsville. He suffered the loss of his mother at the young age of sixteen.

Mike Tyson attended Tryon School For Boys, located in New York. He dropped out of high school in his junior year. 

He was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters by Central State University in 1989.

Mike Tyson won the gold medals at the Junior Olympic Games in 1981 and 1982. He won the gold medal at the National Golden Gloves, which was held in New York City. He beat Jonathan Littles to clinch the medal in 1984.

He left amateur boxing and became a professional boxer in 1985. Eighteen years old at the time, he fought his debut pro match on the 6th of March 1985. His first nationally televised fight was against Jesse Ferguson in February 1986. The match was fought at Houston Field House, New York City. 

As a professional boxer, he fought a total of 58 fights, winning 50 fights and losing six fights. Mike Tyson won 44 by knockout, five by judges’ decision, and one by the disqualification of the other boxer. He has fought in fifteen Pay-Per-View matches in the United States with a total sales of 15,920,000. While in the United Kingdom, he fought in four Pay-Per-View matches with a total sales of 2,400,000.

In 1985, Mike Tyson won the Ring magazine Prospect Of The Year. He clinched the Ring magazine Fighter Of The Year award in 1986 and 1988, respectively. He was BBC Sports Personality Of The Year Overseas Personality (1989). In 2011, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall Of Fame. He was ranked 16th on Ring magazine’s Greatest Punchers Of All Time list. He is the first on ESPN’s Hardest Hitters list in Heavyweight History.

Mike Tyson decided to give marriage a second shot and married Monica Turner. The couple exchanged vows on the 19th of April 1997. Five years later, his marriage suffered a great setback as Monica Turner filed for divorce in 1992. The divorce was finally finalized on the 14th of January 2013, and the marriage was dissolved. Their union was blessed with two sons named Amir Tyson and Ramsey. Ramsey currently identifies as non-binary. 

On the 6th of June 2009, Mike Tyson tied the knot with his girlfriend, Lakiha Spicer, in a private ceremony held in Las Vegas Hilton. She is the mother of his daughter, Milan Tyson, and his son, Morocco Tyson

Mike Tyson had two children with Sol Xochitl, and they are a son, Miguel Leon Tyson, and a daughter, Exodus Tyson. His daughter passed away after experiencing a home accident on the 26th of May 2009. Exodus Tyson was four years old at the time.
